‘Super Seminar’ on college recruiting at Carson HS

Share

Carson High School will be hosting a free college recruiting “Super Seminar” for high school and middle school athletes, their parents, high school coaches and counselors on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the high school multi-purpose room.

In addition to attending the seminar, attendees will be provided free tickets to attend the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl scheduled at 1 p.m. at the StubHub Center.

The NFLPA will also provide a grant to a high school athletic department in the sum of $1,000. The winning high school will be selected through a random drawing at the conclusion of the Super Seminar. Each attending student will represent an additional chance for their school to be selected to win the $1,000 grant (wearing your high school team uniform is encouraged).

The NFLPA Super Seminar is provided free of charge through a joint partnership between the NFL Players Assn. (NFLPA), and the 501(c)3 nonprofit Recruiting Education Foundation, Inc., operators of the FreeRecruitingWebinar.org initiative.

“There is a lot of misinformation concerning recruiting, particularly regarding academic eligibility,” NFLPA Senior Director of Player Affairs and Development Jason Belser said in a release. “Given the dramatic NCAA academic rule changes that are going to impact the class of 2016, the process for academic preparedness needs to start now. Our NFLPA Super Seminar on January 17 will serve as a solid first step for any student-athlete with an interest in playing sports at the college level.”

At the seminar, NFLPA representatives will discuss the business of football, including how to become an informed consumer and decision-maker and how to ensure players make successful academic and athletic transition from high school to college.

Among the many important topics covered will be:

• Parents’ roles in the process

• Scholarship myths and facts

• NAIA and JUCO education

• Evaluating scholarship details

• Negotiate/Cooperative Education

• Dangers of social networking/cell phones

• Saving for college

• National Letter of Intent

• NCAA/NAIA Eligibility Centers

• Recruiting Services

• NCAA core course requirements

Those interested in attending one of five NFLPA Super Seminars are strongly encourage to pre-register online as soon as possible at https://www.super-seminar.com. Parking information will be available on this link as well.

The NFLPA Super Seminars kicked off in early October and will run through March 2015. Other sites include Miami, Richmond, Dallas, Houston and Los Angeles.
