College Roundup: UCI’s Tsurumoto drops 31 on UCR

UC Irvine 90, UC Riverside 78

Guard Jennifer Tsurumoto finished with a career-high 31 points, to go with five rebounds, four assists and three steals in the Anteaters’ Big West Conference game at home on Saturday.

Tsurumoto shot eight of 14 from the field and 12 of 13 from the free-throw line. She made three three-pointers.

Tsurumoto’s previous best was a 30-point effort she recorded on Thursday.

UCI’s Camille Buckley recorded 16 points, and Methlyn Onogomuho had 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Anteaters made 46.9% of their shots (30 of 64). They hit seven of 15 three-point attempts (46.7%).

UCI (8-8, 1-1 in conference) plays at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Orange Coast 69, Irvine Valley 56

IRVINE — Sophomore forward Raechelle Davis finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals in the Pirates Orange Empire Conference opener on Friday.

Dayanara Armenta had 16 points, five assists and two steals for OCC (10-7, 1-0 in conference), while Chanelle DiCroce had 12 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

OCC’s Jasmine Matar produced 11 points, seven rebounds and eight steals.

The Pirates plays host to Cypress on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Irvine Valley 72, Orange Coast 52

IRVINE — Sophomore guard Spencer Poston led the Pirates with 10 points and three steals for the Pirates in an Orange Empire Conference opener on Friday.

Devaun Evans, Noah Prouse and Lafayette Kittrell finished with nine points apiece for OCC (6-12, 0-1 in conference).

The Pirates shot 31.1 percent (14 of 45) from the field.

OCC is at home against Cypress on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
