BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Newport Harbor 88, University 65

IRVINE — Junior Garrett Davis had 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the visiting Sailors in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Senior Adrian Balcazar had 14 points and junior Chase Davis chipped in 12 for Newport Harbor (9-7), which opens Sunset League play at home Friday against Huntington Beach at 7 p.m.

Costa Mesa 61, Santiago 53

GARDEN GROVE — Seniors Sean Comer and Kyle Hefner had 16 points each, while senior Quentin Bell had nine points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots to lead the visiting Mustangs in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Costa Mesa (11-5) plays in the Small Schools Showcase hosted by Brethren Christian on Saturday against Flintridge Prep at Liberty Christian School in Huntington Beach.

Sage Hill 50, Oxford Academy 30

Junior Tyler Hague had 12 points, senior Jack Williamson added 10 and Krishan Tarsadia chipped in eight for the host Lightning in the Academy League opener on Tuesday.

Sage Hill is 9-3 heading into Friday’s league game at Calvary Chapel of Downey.

Katella 52, Estancia 50 (OT)

Gunnar Johnston had 14 points for the host Eagles in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Josh Mendoza and Martin Harry scored 14 apiece for Estancia (5-11), which committed a foul at the buzzer to allow the Knights to tie the game in regulation.

Katella outscored the hosts, 4-2, in the extra session.

Estancia returns to action on Jan. 15 when it opens Orange Coast League play against rival Costa Mesa on the Mustangs’ floor at 7 p.m.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Sage Hill 6, Oxford Academy 0

Nikolai Sadeghi finished with three goals and an assist in an Academy League home opener on Tuesday, keeping the Lightning unbeaten.

Sage Hill improved to 4-0-1.

Juan Rodriguez, Milad Rohani, and Julius Hertzlinger each scored a goal for the Lightning.
