EL CAJON — Senior Keith Mason led the visiting Lions with 19 points and seven rebounds in the Golden State Athletic Conference game at Grossmont College on Tuesday.

Mason was eight for nine from the field and shared the team lead with three steals to help the Lions improve to 11-6, 2-1 in conference.

DeAngelo Jones had 16 points, on seven-of-11 shooting from the field, while Chris Gorman added 13 points and a team-best five assists.

San Diego Christian is 5-7, 0-4.

EL CAJON — Junior Samantha Doucette had 24 points to lead the visiting No. 1-ranked Lions, who rallied to send it into overtime, only to be bested by the Hawks in the extra session.

Junior Riley Holsinger had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Vanguard (9-4, 2-2 in conference), which got two free throws from Lauren Martin with 1:02 left in regulation to create a 60-60 deadlock.

The Hawks (6-10, 2-2) hit a jumper with 1:05 left in the five-minute overtime to take a 67-66 lead, then added a free throw. Martin missed two foul shots and Doucette missed a jumper in the final minute.

Amber Alexander had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lions.

UC Irvine 78, Concordia 72

Senior Methlyn Onomoguho matched her career high with 20 points and had a career-high 15 rebounds to lead the host Anteaters in the nonconference game Sunday.

Irene Chavez had 12 points and four rebounds off the bench, while Shereen Sutherland and Madison McKenney had 11 points apiece for the winners (3-12).

Mokun Fajemisin chipped in 10 points and six rebounds for UCI, which amassed a 56-47 rebounding advantage to overcome a poor shooting performance from the field (22 for 75 for 29.3%).

Janis Peterson had 27 points for Concordia (9-3).

UCI opens Big West Conference play on Thursday at Long Beach State at 7 p.m.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Lewis def. UC Irvine

The visiting Flyers, ranked No. 9, posted a 25-22, 25-21, 25-23 sweep of the No. 8-ranked Anteaters in the season opener for both schools Monday.

Sophomore outside hitter Tamir Hershko led the Anteaters with a career-high 17 kills and hit .414, while junior Kyle Russell chipped in 13 kills.

Michael Saeta had 36 assists and half of the ‘Eaters’ two aces.

Lewis hit .430 as a team, 165 points better than the Anteaters.

UCI plays in the Outrigger Tournament, Thursday through Sunday at the University of Hawaii. UCI opens Thursday against Penn State.
