Howie Kendrick teaches game in Costa Mesa

Howie Kendrick, the Angels second baseman, wrapped up his two-day MLB Pro Players Skills Camp Monday at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa.

Youngsters, ages 8 to 14, received the rare opportunity of training with pros and also posed for photos and had items signed by Kendrick on Monday.

The camp also featured training and direction from minor leaguers, including Christian Bergman, the former UC Irvine standout, as well as Danny Espinosa, Kyle Higashioka, Blake Taylor, Tyler Rahmatulla and Aaron Wirsch.

Proceeds from the camp went to Kendrick’s charitable initiatives.

When Kendrick grew up in Jacksonville, Fla. he said he never took part in a camp such as the one coming to Costa Mesa.

“To have the opportunity to give back, it means a lot to me,” Kendrick said last month. “I never had the opportunity to receive this type of training at a camp. We had some minor league players and mostly high school coaches.”
