High School Roundup: Estancia pushes past Sage Hill

COSTA MESA — Senior Ben Beck had 25 points to lead the host Eagles in the nonleague game Friday.

Josh Mendoza added 13 points for Estancia (3-7).

Sophomore Tyler Hague had 16 points for the Lightning (5-6), who received 11 points from junior Jack Williamson and 10 from sophomore Kushan Tarsadia.

Estancia plays host to Long Beach Wilson in the first round of the Coast Classic on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Sage Hill returns to action on Jan. 2 when it visits Mountain View Christian, which plays host to its own tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.

NORCO — Sean Comer had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Mustangs in the pool-play game of the I-15 Classic at Norco High Friday.

Kyle Hefner added 14 points and Daniel Azurin scored 13 points for Costa Mesa (3-7), which plays in a consolation game on Saturday.

Costa Mesa Classic

COSTA MESA — The host Mustangs advanced to the tournament semifinals after winning twice Friday.

Costa Mesa defeated Kennedy, 20-5, and Etiwanda, 14-4. The Mustangs play defending champion Newport “B” in the semifinals at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The championship match is at 1:50 p.m.

Kellie Thorsness scored seven goals against Kennedy for Costa Mesa. Aubry Hill had three goals and five steals and also made five saves in goal, and Kaitlyn Hill made six saves. Lauren Smith added three goals, while Alicia Rederscheid and Melissa Folkerts each scored twice.

Thorsness had five goals against Etiwanda, and Rederscheid scored four times. Aubry Hill and Ashley Tfaye each scored twice, and Smith had five steals and three assists.

Kaitlyn Hill made 11 saves and had an assist against Etiwanda.

Sage Hill 5, Rancho Alamitos 0

GARDEN GROVE — Tiffany Taylor had a goal and an assist for the Lightning in the nonleague game Friday.

Rachael Jaffe, Madi Jabara, Brenna Van Hoogenstyn and Kekai Whitford also scored for Sage Hill (8-2-1).

Claire Novotny and Janis Jin had an assist each for the Lightning. Sage Hill goalie Rachel Cramer made three saves and Whitford had one save.

SANTA ANA — Senior Maggie Danner had 18 points, seven rebounds, seven blocks and four steals for the Lightning in the nonleague game Friday night.

Senior Shelby Bolen had 11 points and 10 rebounds, sophomore Kendra Hall had six points and sophomore Bailey Super recorded seven steals for Sage Hill (3-5).

NEWPORT COAST — Milad Rohani scored for the Lightning in the nonleague game Friday.

Will Burns provided the assist and he also stood out defensively. Goalkeeper Adam Ellingson and Danny Lee also played well for Sage Hill (3-4-0).
