High School Roundup: Eagles shut out Oilers

BOYS’ SOCCER

Estancia 2, Huntington Beach 0

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Senior goalkeeper Danny Guerrero made four saves and recorded the shutout for the Eagles on Friday, making it six games Estancia hasn’t allowed a goal this season.

Abraham Cortez and Cristian Montillo each recorded goals for Estancia (3-0-3).

The Eagles play at Edison on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Newport Harbor 3, University 1

NEWPORT BEACH — Senior striker David Muñoz scored a goal and added an assist as the Sailors upset University, ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section 3 poll, in a nonleague match on Friday.

Jonny Arroyo added a goal and an assist.

Brandon Varela registered a goal.

Newport Harbor (4-2-2) plays at Baldwin Park, ranked No. 2 in Division 5, on Dec. 22 at 3 p.m.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Corona del Mar 4, Mission Viejo 1

MISSION VIEJO — Miranda Stiver scored two goals and Karsten Sigband had a goal and an assist for the Sea Kings in the nonleague game Friday.

Birkley Sigband added a goal, Annie Alvarado had two assists and Emily Krebs contributed an assist for CdM (5-1-0).

The Sea Kings trailed 1-0 after Mission scored 15 minutes in. CdM answered with three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half and another tally in the second half.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 51, California Academy of Math & Science 40

NEWPORT COAST — Sophomore forward Tyler Hague had 19 points and junior guard Jack Williamson added 15 to lead the host Lightning in the nonleague game Friday.

Sophomore point guard Krishan Tarsadia had seven points for Sage (5-4), which visits Capistrano Valley Christian on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Warren 75, Newport Harbor 45

MONTEBELLO — Robbie Rettig had 14 points and six steals for the Sailors in their final pool-play game of the Cantwell-Sacred Heart tournament on Friday.

Nic Sargeant added 13 points for Newport Harbor (6-2), which will play in the third-place game Saturday at 6 p.m. against the winner of Friday’s game between Lynwood and Cantwell-Sacred Heart.

Westminster 54, Corona del Mar 45

WESTMINSTER — Senior guard Blake Grable led the Sea Kings in a third-round game at the Charlie Wilkens Memorial Tournament at Westminster High on Friday

Max Stone had 14 points for CdM (5-3).

The Sea Kings, ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 3-AA, play Ocean View, No. 4 in Division 3-A, on Saturday at 3 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 58, Oxford Academy 2

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Freshman center Krista Anderson finished with 27 points and eight rebounds on Friday, helping the Sea Kings advance to the Ocean View tournament consolation championship game.

CdM (4-4) plays Marina on Saturday at 1:20 p.m.

Natalia Bruening had 10 points and six rebounds for the Sea Kings.

Maria King contributed eight points and five rebounds.

Newport Harbor 34, San Juan Hills 32

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Freshman point guard Jasmyn Winters had 15 points and two assists in the Sailors’ game in the Ocean View tournament on Friday.

McKenna Izzi finished with seven points and five steals for Newport Harbor (4-7).

Cierra Haas contributed six points and 10 rebounds.

The Sailors’ next game in the tournament is Saturday at 5:40 p.m. They will play the winner of Saturday’s game between Dana Hills and Tesoro, which starts at 9:20 a.m.
