Shelley Anderson, a second-team Under Armour All-American setter at Chino Hills High, is among three players to sign national letters of intent to play women’s volleyball at UC Irvine.

Anderson, a member of the women’s junior national training team, joins fellow recruits Dani Geiger and Cassidy Pickrell to form a group that excites Anteaters Coach Paula Weishoff.

“[She] is one of the best setters in the 2013 class,” Weishoff said of the 5-foot-11 Anderson, a three-time first-team All-Sierra League honoree. “She is a fun and dynamic setter to watch and her quick tempo and precision will help us to run our fast offense. She also brings great leadership and passion which are vital to the setter position.”

Pickrell, a 6-1 outside hitter, led Coppell High to two straight Texas state championships the last two seasons. She was an all-district selection her junior season and is a three-time district high jump champion with a school-record clearance of 5 feet, 7 inches.

“Cassidy is a six-rotation outside hitter that brings speed, power and ball control and her competitive drive will push our team to a new level and set the tone for 2013,” Weishoff said.

Geiger, a 6-0 middle blocker at Santa Margarita High, is “athletic, explosive and dynamic,” Weishoff said. “ “Her athleticism allows us to play her at any position and upgrades both our offense and blocking.”

UCI was 11-22 in 2012, after posting a 10-19 record in 2011 and an 8-22 mark in 2010.
