Girls’ Volleyball: CdM’s Humphreys named Pacific Coast League MVP

Corona del Mar High senior setter Kelsey Humphreys has been named the All-Pacific Coast League MVP in girls’ volleyball after the Sea Kings claimed their seventh straight league championship.

Humphreys, who is bound for Stanford, is one of three CdM players receiving first-team all-league laurels. The others are sophomore outside hitter Hayley Hodson and senior outside hitter Grace Kennedy, who is also headed to Stanford.

CdM senior libero Katie Curci and senior middle blocker Shannon Griffin were each named to the second team.

Humphreys, Hodson and Kennedy led the Sea Kings (28-7, 10-0 in league) to the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1-AA playoffs, where they lost in three sets at top-seeded Redondo Union.

Humphreys, a two-time first-team pick, amassed 888 assists. She made the all-tournament teams at the Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas and the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.

Hodson produced 453 kills in 995 attempts. She had a .335 hitting percentage.

Hodson made the all-tournament teams at the Durango Fall Classic and the Torrey Pines Asics California Challenge in San Diego.

Kennedy, a two-time first-team pick, finished with 203 kills. She made the all-tournament team at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.
