BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 55, Crespi 45

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Seniors Danny Cheek and Marcus Bradley were named to the all-tournament team after leading the Sea Kings to a third-place finish in the Ocean View Tournament of Champions Saturday.

Cheek scored 21 points and Bradley added 20 points. Senior Spencer Haly had six points for CdM (6-2), which will play against Tesoro Wednesday at 11 a.m. at El Toro High.

Costa Mesa 56, New Roads 16

LONG BEACH — Daniel Wase scored 15 points for the Mustangs, who finished seventh in the eight-team St. Anthony’s Tournament Saturday.

Jordan Walden and Jake Comer scored 10 points each for Costa Mesa (3-5), which next plays at Irvine Dec. 21.

Sunny Hills 48, Estancia 42

PICO RIVERA — Ray Holmes scored 17 points for the Eagles in the fifth-place game of the El Rancho Blue Pride Classic at El Rancho High Saturday.

Davon Joyner added 16 points for Estancia (4-5), which plays at Rancho Alamitos Friday.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Corona del Mar 11, Murrieta Valley 3

CORONA DEL MAR — Pippa Saunders scored six goals for the Sea Kings in their home opener Saturday.

Ally McCormick scored five goals, while goalies Alex Musselman and Anna Venturini had nine and four saves, respectively.

CdM will play host to Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay Friday at 4 p.m.

Soccer Town High School Showcase

SANTA BARBARA — Corona del Mar tied two opponents Saturday.

The Sea Kings (5-0-3), ranked No. 2 in the nation by ESPN Rise, began with a 2-2 tie against Gilroy. Brian Ford scored both goals. Jack Gorab and Drew Blumenthal had an assist each, while goalie Marcell Massinelli had two saves.

Goalie Connor Gaal recorded two saves in CdM’s 0-0 tie with Loyola of Los Angeles.

The Sea Kings will play at Mater Dei Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Estancia 36, Century 33

ORANGE — Celia Duran scored 14 points to help the Eagles finish third in the Orange Tournament Saturday.

Yessenia Maldonado, who scored seven points, was named to the all-tournament team.

Vanessa Stafford also scored seven, all coming in the fourth quarter.

Estancia (4-4) will play at Orange in a nonleague game Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Savanna 32, Sage Hill 24

ANAHEIM — Lightning junior Ava Soleimany earned all-tournament honors after scoring 13 points in the third-place game of the Husky Classic at Fairmont Prep Saturday.

Sophomore Shelby Bolen grabbed 15 rebounds for Sage Hill (4-2), which will begin play in the three-day Avalon Tournament Dec. 28.

WRESTLING

Andrew Pena Tournament

IRVINE — Newport Harbor High senior Ryan Cerrato placed second at 171 pounds Saturday, and senior Jesus Sotelo placed third at 130s at Irvine High.

Cerrato went 3-1, getting pinned a wrestler from Oxnard in the final. Sotelo, who went 5-1, defeated a wrestler from Los Alamitos, 5-2, in his third-place match.

Three other Sailors – Ben Nordstrom (152), Bradley Beaudette (189) and Abraham Aguilar (215) missed placing by one match.

The Sailors play host to rival CdM in the Battle of the Bay on Thursday.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Irvine Tournament

IRVINE — Estancia finished second in its pool after its results Saturday at Hicks Canyon Park.

The Eagles (2-1-2) lost to Capistrano Valley, 3-1, with freshman Haley Flores scoring off an assist from Jackie Freiberger.

Estancia then tied, 0-0, with Rim of the World, as Eagles’ goalie Ferny Perez had four saves.
