Sage Hill 53, Santa Ana Valley 42

IRVINE — Senior guard Mark Loper had 26 points and six rebounds as the Lightning advanced to the championship game of the Gelman Classic on Wednesday at Tarbut V’Torah.

Senior forward T.J. Danner had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists for Sage Hill (6-0).

The Lightning play Santa Ana Valley against at 6 tonight in the championship game of the tournament. Coach Jeff Beeler said Sage Hill and Santa Ana Valley had the best records in the round-robin format, so it’ll be a rematch for the title.

Alhambra 54, Estancia 50

PICO RIVERA — Davon Joyner scored 16 points to lead the Eagles in the pool-play game of the El Rancho Blue Pride Classic Wednesday.

Estancia (3-3) still won its pool because of its points scored. The Eagles will face Montebello today at 7:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

Ray Holmes had 14 points and Charlie Umansky added 10 points against Alhambra.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Newport Harbor 49, Segerstrom 37

NEWPORT BEACH— Junior guard Mandy Legault finished with 18 points and two steals in a nonleague game Wednesday, helping the Sailors improve to 5-0 on the season.

Kasey Thompson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Newport Harbor, which was without center Alex Morton in the second half. Coach Justin Long said Morton’s back tightened up.

Kelly Lesueur had five points and seven rebounds, while Mimi Gibson contributed six points.

Sage Hill 46, Mountain Valley Christian 37

ANAHEIM — Junior co-captain Ava Soleimany had 18 points as the Lightning won their first pool-play game against the school from Nevada in the Fairmont Prep tournament Wednesday.

Junior Zoe Kreitenberg added a career-high 13 points for Sage Hill (3-0). The Lightning continue pool play at 4:30 p.m. today against Connelly, also at Fairmont Prep.

Corona del Mar 57, San Juan Hills 35

ORANGE — Junior Samantha Coffman and senior Daniela Gallardo each scored eight points for the Sea Kings in their pool play game at the Orange Tournament on Wednesday at Orange High.

Junior Jordan Meyer added seven points for CdM (4-1), which plays host Orange in continued pool play at 3 p.m. today.

Katella 38, Estancia 24

ORANGE — Yessenia Maldonado scored eight points to lead the Eagles in the pool-play game of the Orange tournament Wednesday.

Celia Duran had seven points for Estancia (2-3), which was without standout Kassie Stratton, who has a calf injury.

The Eagles will face Trabuco Hills today at 2 p.m. in pool play at Orange High.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Calvary Chapel 1, Sage Hill 0

NEWPORT COAST — Goalie Alexa Thomas had eight saves for the Lightning in the nonleague game Wednesday.

Calvary Chapel scored in the 75th minute.

Sage Hill (2-2) will play host to Costa Mesa Friday at 3:15 p.m.

Palm Desert 15, Estancia 10

PALM DESERT — Kylie Carpenter had five goals and Alexis Paul made 12 saves for the Eagles in the nonleague road contest Wednesday.

Estancia (2-6) plays host to Fullerton today at 3 p.m.
