Browning shines

Madison Browning, a third grader at Newport Heights Elementary, won two silver medals at the Southern California gymnastics state championships in San Diego.

Over 800 gymnasts from Southern California competed in the three-day event. Browning, competing in Level 5 for Aliso Viejo-based Azarian Gymnastics, scored a 9.5 on both the balance beam and floor exercise, winning the silver medal in both. She scored a 36.375 and finished fifth in the all-around competition (which also includes uneven bars and vault).

Azarian’s team won first place in each of Levels 4, 5 and 6. Azarian’s level 4, 5 and 6 girls’ teams are coached by Perry Davies, Vanessa Gonzales, Ivan Nguyen and Brice Meyers.
