Boys’ Soccer: Sage Hill’s Cid stepping down

Share

On the same day the Sage Hill School boys’ soccer team opened the season, it learned it will lose its coach.

Ignacio Cid will step down from his post on Friday because of a new professional opportunity, said J.R. Tolver, the school’s boys’ athletic director, in an email on Wednesday.

Tolver said Cid wasn’t going to coach Sage Hill’s season opener at home Wednesday against Capistrano Valley Christian, but that Cid would coach Friday’s match at Huntington Beach and it would be his last in charge of the Lightning.

Cid, who took over at Sage Hill two years ago, led the Lightning to the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs last season. The postseason appearance was the program’s second straight under Cid.

Last season, Sage Hill finished 9-6, 8-2 in the Academy League, good for second place.

Tolver said Luis Turcios, an assistant under Cid, has been named Sage Hill’s interim coach.
