Three teams in title matches

The Newport-Mesa area will have three high school girls’ volleyball teams vying for CIF Southern Section championships Saturday at Cypress College.

Newport Harbor (25-8) will play against Los Alamitos (34-3) for the Division I-AA championship 8 p.m. in Gym No. 2. The No. 4-seeded Sailors lost twice to the No. 2-seeded Griffins during Sunset League play.

Newport Harbor will try to win its eighth section title under Coach Dan Glenn and its first since 2009.

Corona del Mar (31-3) will face top-seeded Marymount of Los Angeles in the Division I-A title match at 4:45 p.m. in Gym No. 2. The No. 2-seeded Sea Kings, the Pacific Coast League champions, lost to top-seeded Marymount in four sets at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions. Marymount (29-4) is the defending champion.

CdM is seeking its first section title since 2004

The Division IV-AA title match features a rivalry as Sage Hill (22-6) will play against St. Margaret’s at 7 p.m. in Gym No. 1. The Lightning, the No. 4 seed, split with the No. 5-seeded Tartans (17-4) during Academy League play, with each team winning on the road. The teams shared the league title.

Sage Hill is seeking its first section title since 2005, when the Lightning beat St. Margaret’s for their first championship in school history.
