Vanguard falls to Cal State San Marcos

COSTA MESA — The Lions had three players in double figures in the nonconference game Friday night at the Pit.

Junior guard Preston Wynne led Vanguard (3-2) with 16 points. Sophomore guard Chris Gorman added 15 points and sophomore swingman Selle Hann finished with 10 points for the Lions.

The Lions, who shot 40% from the field, trailed, 43-34, at halftime. They held their largest lead at 28-18 with 9:50 left in the first half.

Cal State San Marcos improved to 4-1 by winning its fourth straight game.

The Cougars held a sizable advantage down low. They scored 48 points in the paint, while Vanguard had 24 in that area.

Cal State San Marcos finished shooting 54% from the field. The Cougars had four players in double figures, led by Jacob Ranger, who scored 18 points.

Vanguard opens the Hope International tournament in Fullerton against Southwestern Christian Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The Lions face Central Methodist in the same tournament Wednesday at 5 p.m.
