VALENCIA — The Estancia High girls’ volleyball team’s season ended with a loss, but first-year coach Paul Muñoz was pleased that it at least ended in the playoffs.

Senior Lily McLendon led the Eagles with 12 kills in her final match with Estancia (7-17).

Valencia (18-14) beat the Eagles, 25-15, 25-15, 25-12, in a CIF Southern Section Division I-A first-round match.

Junior Lauren Peterson had five kills and senior Jessica Lyons had 11 digs for Estancia.

Muñoz said his team set the goal to make the playoffs, and earned the berth by finishing third in the Orange Coast League.

“It was a learning experience, to say the least,” Muñoz said of his first year with the Eagles. “I’m happy with how the season went. I think we have a bright future ahead of us. We have a lot of freshmen and sophomores improving.”
