Estancia def. Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA — Outside hitter Lily McLendon finished with 15 kills to help the Eagles clinch the Orange Coast League’s No. 3 berth into the CIF Southern Section Division I-A playoffs after a 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-10 road victory against their cross-town rivals Wednesday night.

Jessica Lyons contributed 15 digs for Estancia, which improved to 5-4 in league.

The postseason pairings will be announced Sunday.

Sage Hill def. Crean Lutheran

NEWPORT COAST — Zoe Kreitenberg finished with 11 kills and two blocks in the Lightning’s 25-18, 25-16, 25-19 Academy League victory Tuesday night.

Sage Hill (11-11, 8-1 in league) plays host to St. Margaret’s (9-0 in league) today at 5:30 p.m. A Lightning win gives them a share of the league title, their first since 2008.

FIELD HOCKEY

Newport Harbor 1, Harvard-Westlake 0

NORTH HOLLYWOOD — Taylor Cordeiro scored the game-winning goal in overtime Wednesday to lift the Sailors into the final of the L.A. Field Hockey Assn. Tournament of Champions.

Newport Harbor (23-2) plays the winner of the semifinal game between Huntington Beach and Glendora in the championship game today at Huntington Beach High at 6:45 p.m. The Sailors are seeking their third straight title.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Orange Coast League playoffs

Costa Mesa High girls’ tennis was the odd team out and will not make the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs, Estancia Coach Rachel de los Santos said Wednesday.

Costa Mesa, Estancia and Calvary Chapel all finished 6-4 in league, tied for second, but only the top three teams go to CIF. After a coin flip, Costa Mesa and Estancia played Saturday, and the Eagles won, 10-8, to earn the league’s No. 2 seed.

De los Santos said Costa Mesa and Calvary Chapel then played Tuesday for the No. 3 seed and Calvary won, 10-8, leaving Mesa out of the playoffs. The CIF playoffs begin next week.

Sunset League finals

SEAL BEACH — Newport Harbor freshman Natalie Cernius won both of her respective rounds in singles action at the Sunset League finals at the Seal Beach Tennis Center on Wednesday.

Cernius, the No. 3 seed, advanced to today’s semifinals at 1 p.m.

Fourth-seeded Blake Bakkila also won her two rounds and advanced to the semis.

The Sailors’ top-seeded doubles team of Christina Young and Ricki Archie reached the semis.

Two Newport Harbor doubles teams will meet in the semis. Second-seeded Megan Bathen and Mindy Wheeler face third-seeded Riley Mathies and Alex Aiello.

Orange Coast League finals

LAGUNA BEACH — Estancia senior singles player Laurel Hinson, as well as the Eagles doubles team of junior Christy Brown and senior Erin O’Neil, advanced to today’s semifinals.

Hinson, the No. 3 seed, beat players from Godinez and Laguna Beach on Wednesday. She’ll play No. 2-seeded Claire Jaeger of Laguna Beach in today’s semifinal.

Brown and O’Neil beat a team from Godinez then topped Costa Mesa’s Jackie Dang and Lisa Vu, 6-1, 6-4, in a quarterfinal. They play a No. 4-seeded team from Laguna in a semifinal.

Semifinals begin at 2 p.m. today at Laguna Beach High.

Pacific Coast League finals

IRVINE — Corona del Mar High senior Lynda Xepoleas and sophomore Nini Ugrelidze advanced to today’s semifinals Wednesday at Woodbridge High.

No. 2-seeded Xepoleas will face No. 3 Krystal Lai of University at 2 p.m., while Ugrelidze plays top-seeded Mayo Hibi of Woodbridge.

In doubles, the CdM team of Kalika Slevcove and Morgan McVey also advanced to the semifinals by outlasting a University team in the quarterfinals. No. 3-seeded Slevcove and McVey will face No. 2 Elika Fateri and Danielle Pham of University in the semis.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Estancia 13, Savanna 2

ANAHEIM — Senior Charlie Umansky and junior Derek Andrews each scored three goals for the Eagles in their nonleague road win Wednesday.

Senior Conner Graham had 16 saves for Estancia (18-6).

Corona del Mar 15, Beckman 6

IRVINE — Senior Hayden Leach scored four goals as the Sea Kings won the Pacific Coast League game Wednesday and clinched the outright league title.

Ben Zepfel and Chase Watson each scored three goals for CdM (18-8, 9-0 in league). Bruce Bearer and A.J. Santa Maria combined for nine saves.

Newport Harbor 22, Marina 3

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors clinched the outright Sunset League title Wednesday night at Newport Harbor.

Trevor McGhie had six goals for the Sailors (21-4).

Tustin 15, Costa Mesa 9

COSTA MESA — Junior James Lewis scored five goals for the Mustangs in their season finale Wednesday.

Goalie Mitchell Grandia made 10 saves for Mesa (8-18) and the team’s lone senior, Brian Lozano, also scored in his final high school game.
