High School Roundup: Sailors clinch share

NEWPORT BEACH — Farrel South had six goals, four steals and one assist to help lead the Newport Harbor High boys’ water polo team to a 18-2 win over Edison, clinching at least a share of the Sunset League title Wednesday.

Dan Stevens had three goals, two assists and one steal, while Ryan Fowler had three goals for Newport Harbor (17-3, 4-0 in league), ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll.

Goalie Chris Whitelegge had two saves and goalie Koby Yakota had three saves in the second half for the Sailors, who can clinch the league title outright next week against Marina.

Newport Harbor competes in the two-day FINIS Memorial Cup starting Friday in San Jose.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Estancia def. Godinez

ESTANCIA — Lily McClendon had 13 kills to help lead the Eagles to a 25-12, 25-23, 25-9 Orange Coast League win Wednesday.

Jessica Lyons had three kills and Charlotte Gaitan had 19 digs for Estancia (6-8, 4-3 in league).

Costa Mesa def. Saddleback

SANTA ANA —Amanda Moore had 18 kills to lead the Mustangs to a 25-15, 25-19, 25-20 Orange Coast League win Wednesday.

Shannon Walthers added 10 kills, Alex Krohnfeldt had 30 assists and Karli Mariani had nine kills for Costa Mesa (7-6, 4-3 in league).

Sage Hill def. Whitney

CERRITOS — Zoe Kreitenberg had seven kills and four aces to help lead the Lightning to a 25-15, 25-20, 25-19 Academy League win Wednesday.

Maggie Danner had six kills and two aces, while setter Alayna Lewis had 21 assists, six digs and two kills for Sage Hill (9-13, 6-1 in league).

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Estancia 17, Saddleback 1

SANTA ANA —No. 1 singles player Laurel Hinson and No. 2 Claire Woodside both swept for the Eagles in their Orange Coast League match Wednesday.

Estancia (9-7, 6-3 in league) swept in doubles. The Eagles play at Costa Mesa today at 3 p.m. and need to win to earn second place outright in the Orange Coast League.

Estancia won, 11-7, in the teams’ first meeting.

Corona del Mar 15, Laguna Beach 3

LAGUNA BEACH — Lynda Xepoleas won 6-3, 6-0 before being subbed out at No. 1 singles for the Sea Kings in their nonleague win Wednesday.

In doubles, CdM seniors led the charge, at No. 2 doubles Piper Bledsoe and Emily Altieri won, 6-2, 6-3, and at No. 3 doubles Jessica Yi and Jessica Beyer won 7-5, 6-2.

The Sea Kings (13-4) play at rival University today at 3 p.m.
