Newport Harbor 5, Edison 0

NEWPORT BEACH — Megan Case scored two goals for the Sailors in the Sunset League game at Davidson Field Tuesday.

Taylor Cordeiro, Stephanie Storch and Sophie Evans added a goal each for Newport Harbor (20-2, 8-1 in league), which held Edison without a shot on goal until the closing minutes.

Courtney McIntosh and Madeline Storch excelled in the midfield and on defense, Sailors Coach Amanda Boyer said.

Evans, Storch and Cordeiro all scored goals in Monday’s 3-0 league win over Westminster.

Newport Harbor closes out the regular season against visiting Fountain Valley Thursday at Harper Park. With a win, the Sailors will clinch at least a share of the league title.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Estancia 10, Calvary Chapel 8

COSTA MESA — The Eagles’ No. 2 doubles team of seniors Helena Secrest and Haylie Stephenson swept to lead the way in the Orange Coast League match Tuesday.

Estancia’s No. 3 doubles team of seniors Kelly Peterson and Kylie Carpenter also rallied from a 3-0 game deficit and a 4-0 tiebreaker deficit to claim a crucial set victory.

Both the aforementioned doubles performances helped Estancia avenge a 10-8 first-round loss to Calvary.

Estancia (8-7, 5-3 in league) can clinch second place outright with a victory at Costa Mesa Thursday. The Eagles topped the Mustangs, 11-7, in the first round.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Sage Hill 15, Crean Lutheran South 3

SANTA ANA — Ava Soleimany and Oivia Simon swept at love at No. 1 doubles for the Lightning in the Academy League match Tuesday.

Casey Astorino, playing one set with Abby Wesley and two sets with Rian Billinglesy at No. 2 doubles also swept without losing a game. Devyn Billingsley, playing two sets with Cali Goldberg and one set with Lauren Hsu, swept, dropping just one game for Sage Hill (11-5, 6-1 in league), ranked No. 5 in the CIF Southern Section Division III coaches’ poll.

The Lightning will play host to No. 4-ranked St. Margaret’s Friday at the Tennis Club Newport Beach.

Newport Harbor 16, Los Alamitos 2

NEWPORT BEACH — Lauren Conway swept at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-3, 6-0, for the Sailors in the Sunset League match Tuesday.

Ricki Archie and Christina Young, who are undefeated in league, won twice at No. 1 doubles before being substituted out, as did No. 2 singles player Natalie Cernius for Newport Harbor (15-2, 8-0 in league), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division II.

The Sailors will play host to Edison Thursday. A victory would give Newport Harbor the league championship.

Corona del Mar 12, Woodbridge 5

IRVINE — Nini Ugrelidze swept at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 7-5, 6-0, for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday.

Alison Ishii teamed up with Lauren Thaxter to sweep at No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, for CdM (12-4, 7-1 in league), ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division I. Woodbridged entered ranked No. 7.

The Sea Kings play at Laguna Beach in a nonleague match today and then at No. 3-ranked University in a Pacific Coast League match Thursday.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Irvine

CORONA DEL MAR — Hailey Senske had 11 kills for the Sea Kings in their 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 Pacific Coast League win Tuesday night.

Megan Griffin had 15 assists and three aces, while Catherine Sullivan added five kills and two aces for CdM (16-4, 7-0 in league), ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division I-A coaches’ poll.

The Sea Kings play at Woodbridge Thursday.
