COSTA MESA — Sophomore midfielder Cindy Rubio scored two goals for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.

Sarah MacArthur, Sara Gomez and Devin Broederlow also scored for OCC (14-3, 10-3 in conference), which outshot the Gauchos, 24-1.

UC Irvine 0, Cal State Northridge 0

IRVINE — Anteater goalie Corey Tobin made three saves to earn her second shutout of the season in the Big West Conference match Friday night.

UCI is 9-8-2, 5-1-2 in conference. The Matadors are 8-4-6, 5-1-2.

With the draw, the teams remained locked at 17 points in the conference putting them in a three-way tie for second place with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with identical 5-1-2 records.

A Cal State Fullerton win boosted its chances putting it in the top spot with 18 points.

Everything will be decided on Sunday as all 10 Big West schools play at 2 p.m. Cal Poly will play UC Santa Barbara and the Titans visit Pacific, and both would secure a spot with at least one point.

Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State square off in the only match pitting postseason contenders. Long Beach State needs a win to clinch a berth, any other result would knock them out and clinch a berth for the remaining schools.

UCI holds its own destiny against Hawaii. The Anteaters can lock up a spot with a win or draw. Even a loss would get UCI in granted Long Beach State loses. It’s a very cluttered mess with a very simple solution, and UC Irvine will get its opportunity in front of the home crowd Sunday at 2 p.m.
