MEN’S SOCCER

UC Irvine 7, Cal State Fullerton 2

IRVINE — The No. 8-ranked Anteaters had seven different goal scorers in the Big West Conference match Saturday.

Zach Olow, Spencer Thompson, Joel Bagby, Brett Berman, Amani Walker, Corey Attaway and Zlatan Kuckovic scored for UCI (12-1-2, 5-0-1 in conference). Thompson also had an assist, as did Jimmy Turner, Miguel Ibarra, Christian Hernandez and Christopher Santana.

With seven different players scoring, UCI breaks the school record set back in 1988 with six players scoring in an 8-0 win over Loyola Marymount.

MEN’S TENNIS

ITA/USTA Southwest Regional Championships

IRVINE — UC Irvine’s doubles team of Sam Gould-Chris Kearney advanced to the quarterfinals after the San Diego team of Dean Jackson-Patrick Pohlmann withdrew.

Gould-Kearney then defeated Daniel Kosakowski-Clay Thompson (UCLA), 8-4, to reach today’s semifinals. Gould-Kearney are slated to play at 10:30 a.m. and will face Steve Johnson-Raymond Sarmiento of USC.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Vanguard 3, Fresno Pacific 0

COSTA MESA — Karri Currier scored two goals and Gabriela Valles had two assists for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference match Saturday.

Danielle Dintino also scored for Vanguard (8-5-3, 2-4-2 in conference), which scored its goals in the second half.

UCLA 11, UC Irvine 8

LOS ANGELES — Griffin Lerman led the No. 5-ranked Anteaters with thre goals in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game Saturday.

Doug Lindsay added two goals, while Matt Johnson had five saves for UCI (13-4, 2-1 in the MPSF). The No. 3-ranked Bruins improved to 12-3, 3-1.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cal Poly def. UC Irvine

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Juliane Piggott led the Anteaters with 10 kills in the Big West Confernce match Saturday.

The Mustangs won, 25-21, 25-21, 25-16. Larissa Nordyke had nine kills and Kristin Winkler had 23 digs for UCI (5-17, 1-8 in conference).

Fresno Pacific def. Vanguard

COSTA MESA — Lisa Morgan had 10 kills for the host Lions, who fell, 25-14, 25-15, 25-21 to the No. 1-ranked Sunbirds in the Golden State Athletic Conference match Saturday.

Jamie Heenan, a Newport Harbor High product, had 23 assists for Vanguard (13-10, 5-9 in conference).
