College Roundup: UCI’s Park ties for second at invitational

SAMMAMISH, Wash. — UC Irvine senior Michelle Park finished tied for second in the event that concluded Wednesday at Sahalee Country Club.

Park shot an even-par 72 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 217, along with Charlotte Thomas of Washington and Stanford’s Sally Watson. Washington’s SooBin Kim was medalist with an 11-under total of 205.

UCI tied for fourth in the 16-team tournament that included six teams ranked in the nation’s top 50.

Host Washington, ranked sixth, finished first with a three-round score of 886, No. 7 UC Davis was second at 900, 40th-ranked Stanford third at 905, and UCI and No. 39 Oregon tied for fourth at 918. UNLV, ranked 30th, was sixth (927) and No. 46 Gonzaga placed seventh at 933.

UCI junior Ronnie Valerio shot a 79 Wednesday and finished 28th at 234, along with freshman Luciane Lee (82).

Sophomore Michelle Yang, with an 82 in the final round, placed 41st at 237 and junior Sara Banke (86) finished 63rd at 246.

Coach Julie Brooks’ Anteaters return to action Oct. 30-31 in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawaii.

SANTA CLARITA — Edgar Hernandez scored in the 69th minute to pull the visiting Lions even and two overtimes produced nothing in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Wednesday.

Hernandez converted an assist by Joshua Banta for the equalizer, to help Vanguard move its record to 5-5-3, 1-3-1 in conference.

Alejandro Figueroa made nine saves for the Lions.

TMC is 5-5-3, 3-0-2.
