Briefs: Ex-CdM star lauded

Lindsey Luke, a Corona del Mar High product who is a redshirt freshman goalie at Utah, was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week in women’s soccer.

Luke compiled 17 saves and allowed just one goal in victories against Washington State and Washington.

She had a career-high 10 saves against Washington State on Sept. 28, helping the Utes to a 2-1 overtime victory.

On Sept. 30, Luke notched her fourth clean sheet of the season, recording seven saves, including a number of acrobatic stops, on 16 total shots in a 2-0 win over the Huskies.

She has 44 saves in nine games, averaging 4.89 stops per contest.

Luke ranks second in the conference in save percentage (.880) and goals-against average (0.64) for the Utes this season.

She went to Wake Forest out of Corona del Mar, but transferred to Utah.

Montgomery second

UC Irvine product Will Montgomery teamed with Tri Bourne to finish second in the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit event completed Sept. 30 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.

Montgomery and Bourne were defeated, 21-16, 21-15, by Canadians Chaim Schalk and Benjamin Saxton in the final.

Montgomery, a member of UCI’s NCAA championship teams in 2012 and 2009, and Bourne won four of five matches and eight of 10 sets.
