High School Roundup: Umansky a star in victory

SANTA ANA — Senior Charlie Umansky scored eight goals to lead the Estancia High boys’ water polo team to an 11-5 win over Godinez in an Orange Coast League opener Wednesday.

Preston Schow had three goals for Estancia (8-1, 1-0 in league).

Conner Graham made 10 saves.

NEWPORT BEACH — Ricki Archie and Christina Young swept at No. 1 doubles for the Sailors in the nonleague match Wednesday.

Megan Bathen and Mindy Wheeler swept at No. 2 doubles for Newport Harbor (8-2), which plays host to Huntington Beach today to open Sunset League play.

ANAHEIM — Cassie Stevenson shot a nine-over-par 44 to earn medalist honors for the Eagles in the Golden West League match at Dad Miller Golf Course Wednesday.

Emily Leahy (45), Frankie Thorpe (47), Jillian Tanner (49) and Melissa Morel (56) also scored for Estancia (10-2, 7-0 in league).

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Newport Harbor finished third at Central Park Wednesday.

Senior Austin Little led the Sailors, finishing fifth in 15 minutes, 58 seconds.

Junior Jake Barber was sixth in 16:00. Senior Ryan Dutch (16th in 16:50), senior Aaron Fleming (28th in 17:17), senior Spencer Lindsay (31st in 17:32), junior Jason Moreno (35th in 17:37) and senior Luke Dawson ( 41st in 18:03) also competed.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Tori Sarris finished eighth in 19 minutes, 27 seconds for the Sailors at Central Park Wednesday.

Newport Harbor went 2-3 in the meet, picking up wins against Huntington Beach, 20-43, and Edison, 21-36.

The rest of the Sailors’ top four runners were Paige Tennison (11th, 19:34), Leah Van Dyke (16th, 19:51), Katherine Maddox (20th, 19:54) and Katelyn Mead (24th, 20:11).
