Were they ‘foolishly fearless’ picks?

Not a week into producing Costa Mesa’s latest public outreach effort, the “Costa Mesa Minute” daily video production, Dane Bora risked his viewership Thursday with his first “foolishly fearless” high school football picks.

His picks don’t favor the local teams.

“Why foolishly fearless, you ask?” Bora tells viewers. “Well, if I honestly predict what I think the outcome will be, I run the risk of disappointing and offending some of our viewers. But I am no homer, so here goes nothing.”

Bora picked the Northwood Timberwolves to beat Estancia’s Eagles 30-17, and Newport Harbor’s Sailors to lose to the San Clemente Tritons, 31-13.

About 40% of Newport Harbor’s students are from Costa Mesa, Bora points out.

His only local pick for a winner was Costa Mesa’s Mustangs, who he predicts will beat the La Quinta Aztecs on Friday, 20-16.

Bora’s picks are certainly fearless, given his audience. But were they foolish?
