SANTA BARBARA — Junior forward Jordan Davidson scored both goals to pace the No. 17-ranked Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday.

Senior Amanda Couch and junior Megan Hill had assists for Vanguard (5-2), which halted a two-match losing streak.

Sophomore Lauren Terry made five saves to preserve the Lions’ fourth shutout of the season.

Davidson, a transfer from a community college in Arizona, has eight goals and two assists this season.

No. 9-ranked Westmont fell to 4-3-1.

Orange Coast 2, Santiago Canyon 1

COSTA MESA — Frankie Muñoz scored in the 53rd minute to break a 1-1 tie and lead the host Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference opener on Tuesday.

Chase Nugent gave OCC (4-2-1) a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute, but Santiago Canyon (1-2-3) scored three minutes later.

Connor Nelson had five saves and OCC teammates Cedric Ngangnang, Jacob Rushing and Tyler Rios provided strong defense.

OCC visits Norco College on Friday at 3 p.m.

WOMEN’S GOLF

Washington State tournament

PULLMAN, Wash. — Freshman Luciane Lee finished 21st to help UC Irvine open its season with a sixth-place finish in the 14-team, 54-hole Cougar Cup, played over two days and completed Tuesday at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course.

Lee carded a 226, one shot ahead of teammate Michelle Yang who was 22nd.

UCI’s Michelle Park tied for 27th with a score of 228, while Taryn Yee (tied for 30th at 229) and Sara Banke (tied for 35th at 230) also scored for the Anteaters.

UCI’s team score of 903 was 26 shots behind victorious UC Berkeley.

Saint Mary’s Invitational

SEASIDE, Calif. — Junior Travis Russell finished 28th to help UC Irvine finish tied for ninth in the 15-team field in the two-day event that was completed Tuesday at Bayonet and Black Horse golf courses.

Russell, a Newport Harbor High product who transferred from Hawaii-Hilo, carded a 54-hole total of 223, one shot ahead of senior teammate Michael Yang, who was 32nd.

UCI finished 43 shots behind victorious Saint Mary’s.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Concordia def. Vanguard

COSTA MESA — Kelly Heenan had a team-best 12 digs but the host Lions were thumped, 25-16, 25-14, 25-17 by the No. 2-ranked Eagles in the Golden State Athletic Conference contest Tuesday.

Rachel Barker led Vanguard (9-9, 1-3 in conference) with six kills. The Lions hit .030 as a team.

Concordia is 17-0, 4-0.
