COSTA MESA — Maddie Baird had 10 kills to lead the Pirates, the top-ranked team in the state, who lost the nonconference match Friday.

The Lancers, ranked No. 5, won, 25-17, 27-25, 25-22. Aimee Melone added eight kills and a team-best 10 digs, while setter Kimya Jafroudi dished out 23 assists for OCC (3-1), which returns to action on Wednesday at Citrus College at 5 p.m.

Ella Moe led PCC (6-1) with 10 kills, while Markisha Richie added nine, Danielle Stewart added seven from the setter position and Kirsten Taylor contributed six.

The Pirates looked like they were going to run away with Game 3, jumping out to an 11-2 advantage, thanks to the hitting of Baird and the serving of libero Andi Frisina, but the Lancers battled back.

FRESNO — CoCo Goodson and Dana Sanderlin scored for the Anteaters in the nonconference game Friday.

Jordan Bruce and Tanya Taylor each had an assist for UCI (5-1-2). ‘Eaters’ goalie Danielle de Seriere had four saves as she picked up her second shutout of the season.

The Anteaters head to the Bay Area Sunday to take on San Francisco at 1 p.m.

SANTA ANA — Kallie Ryker’s goal off a penalty kick in the 51st minute gave the Pirates the Orange Empire Conference road win Friday.

Ryker’s goal — her second of the season — was supported perfectly by freshman goalkeeper Megan Thomson, who came up with three saves, including a strong stop on SAC’s Kenia Campos in the 81st minute.

The win improves the Pirates to 3-2-1, 2-0 in conference.

COSTA MESA —Goalkeeper Alan Vilchez notched 11 saves for the Pirates in the nonconference match Friday.

OCC (1-4) plays host to San Bernardino Valley Tuesday at 4 p.m.
