CLOVIS – Corona del Mar High’s top team in the tournament advanced to the semifinals Friday at Buchanan High.

CdM sent four teams in the tournament that features 112 teams in nine division. The Sea Kings have four teams, two in the top division. The CdM teams went 8-1 Friday.

The Sea Kings’ top team, the No. 1 seed in the tourney’s top division, beat St. Francis, 5-2, and Davis, 7-0.

Lynda Xepoleas won twice, dropping just two games in four sets.

CdM will play against Menlo in today’s semifinals at Buchanan.

Newport Harbor 11,

Northwood 7

IRVINE – Megan Bathen and Mindy Wheeler swept at No. 2 doubles for the Sailors in their nonleague win Friday.

Alex Aiello and Riley Mathies won twice at No. 3 doubles for Newport Harbor (2-0). The Sailors’ No. 2 singles player, Natalie Cernius, beat Northwood’s No. 1, Courtney Pattugalan, 6-4.

Newport Harbor plays host to Sage Hill Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Lightning Invitational

NEWPORT BEACH – Sage Hill’s Kimberly Brown swept at No. 1 singles to help lead the Lightning to a 15-3 win over top-seeded Cerritos Friday at The Tennis Club Newport Beach.

Devyn Billingsley and Lauren Hsu swept at No. 2 doubles for Sage, which will face Tesoro today at 11 a.m., then against Santa Ynez at 3 p.m.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

SANTA ANA — Brian Lozano scored the game-winning power-play goal with just over a minute left in the second overtime period, as the Mustangs won their season opener Thursday at Saddleback High.

Lozano, the team’s only senior, is a first-year player.

James Lewis scored nine goals, and Wyatt Ferris had two goals, four assists and seven steals for Mesa. Jamie Sacco had a pair of goals and also earned the La Quinta ejection that led to Lozano’s goal.

Quinn Stone also scored for the Mustangs and Mitchell Grandia had 13 saves.
