Sage Hill rallies to win in four on road

IRVINE — The visiting Lightning rallied for a 19-25, 30-28, 27-25, 28-26 nonleague triumph on Friday behind 12 kills and nine blocks from senior Zoe Kreitenberg.

Freshman Holland McKenna came off the bench to add 12 kills and 14 digs, while senior Alayna Lewis had 43 assists and five kills.

Freshman Maddy Abbott had 10 assists, three aces and three kills for Sage Hill (1-1).

The Lightning, ranked No. 6 in CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA, are at home against Northwood on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Lightning Invitational

NEWPORT BEACH — Newport Harbor High has a slight lead after the first day of the five-team event at The Tennis Club Newport Beach.

The Sailors defeated Cerritos, 6-0, in singles on Friday. They also topped Tesoro and Sage Hill in doubles by identical 2-1 scores.

Sage topped Cerritos in singles, 4-2, and Santa Ynez in doubles, 3-0.

The tournament has 10 rounds, with each team playing four singles rounds and four doubles rounds.

Play begins at 11 a.m. Saturday. Team awards will be given, as well as awards for MVP of singles, MVP of doubles and 12 all-tournament team awards.

Harvard-Westlake 4, Newport Harbor 1

NORTH HOLLYWOOD — Senior goalkeeper Andie Ward made nine saves for the visiting Sailors in their nonleague season opener Thursday.

Coach Amanda Boyer singled out the defensive effort of seniors Nicole Zielinski and Kellie Conant.

The Tars visit Chaminade on Tuesday.
