Anteaters tie Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. — The UC Irvine women’s soccer team twice erased one-goal deficits to earn a 2-2 nonconference tie at Cal Sunday.

It was the first time in nine meetings with the Golden Bears that the Anteaters did not lose.

Junior Coco Goodson, a transfer from the University of Texas making her first start for the Anteaters, scored on a direct free kick in the 89th minute to finalize the scoring for UCI (1-0-1).

UCI junior Lexi Kopf, who came off the bench, converted an assist from senior Nikki Forrest in the 34th minute to create a 1-1 deadlock.

Neither team scored in either of the overtime periods.

Senior goalkeeper Danielle de Seriere made eight safes for the ‘Eaters, who had 12 shots to Cal’s 17.

Cal is 1-0-1.

UCI plays host to Seattle Sunday at 1 p.m.
