Undefeated fighters highlight fight night

Share

Roy Englebrecht would most likely say Thursday is a perfect night for fights.

He might not be that far off, as Thursday night will feature five fighters with perfect records, including 9-0 heavyweight Alexander Flores, when the six-bout Fight Club OC takes place in The Hangar at the OC Fair & Events Center, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Flores is ranked No. 37 in the world by the World Boxing Commission. His ranking and undefeated record will be on the line when he faces perhaps the toughest bout of his young career.

Flores, who turned 22 on Aug. 9, takes on Henry Namauu of Las Vegas. Namauu (10-4) is a former football player at UNLV. He has scored five knockout wins and will go for No. 6 in the eight-round bout.

The Fight Club OC mixed martial arts bout of the night will be an all-Orange County matchup, as former UFC veteran and Irvine’s own Rob Emerson will take another step in his quest to get back into the UFC, meeting 4-4 Jason Williams out of Buena Park. Emerson, nicknamed, “The Saint,” had a 4-3 UFC record and will be looking for his 13th MMA win.

Other matchups involving undefeated fighters include 3-0 Byron Gonzalez, who at 18 has three big wins in Mexico and for his USA debut will face Richard Malfavon a veteran of 11 pro fights.

La Habra’s Isaac Tadeo (2-0) will meet Yucaipa’s Silvania Reyes (0-1).

Luis Bello (2-0) from LA will face Alejandro Ochoa (1-1) from Bell Gardens, and Brady Rein (1-0) from Poway will face Omar Barefield.

Tickets priced at $50 are available online at https://www.fightcluboc.com. Happy Hour at Baja Blues next to The Hangar begins at 5:30 p.m. Hangar doors open at 6:30 p.m.
