Former UC Irvine All-American Ryan Bailey scored two goals in the U.S. men’s water polo team’s 10-9 loss in the seventh-place game at the London Olympics on Sunday.

Tim Hutten, another Anteaters alum, also scored a goal for the Americans, who lost their last five contests after opening 3-0.

Bailey scored consecutive American goals in the fourth quarter as a furious rally with four U.S. goals in the final 4:09 fell just short. Bailey scored 13 goals in eight games at the 2012 Olympics.

Bailey, a four-time All-American at UCI and 1998 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Year, is one of the first two male athletes (along with Tony Azevedo) in USA water polo history to compete in four Olympics.

UCI alum Jeff Powers participated in his third Olympics and Hutten his second.
