Florida transfer to UCI

Madison Solow has joined the UC Irvine women’s soccer program after transferring from the University of Florida, UCI Coach Scott Juniper announced Wednesday.

Solow, a 5-foot-5 midfielder from Toronto, Canada, will join the Anteaters as a sophomore after competing with the Gators in 2010. She was a member of the Florida team that claimed the Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Florida held a top-10 national ranking in 10 of the 12 coaches’ polls last season.

Solow is a member of the Canadian Under-20 women’snational team.

“It is getting harder and harder for us to find players who can improve this team and that is a huge compliment to the players that will be returning this fall.” Juniper said. “Mady is very excited to be coming here and we are confident that she will make a valuable contribution. She will bring her experiences from the University of Florida and we have seen in the last couple of years the kind of impact transfers can have. We have added transfers from the University of Texas, Washington State and UCLA who have all come in and moved our program forward. There is a buzz around UCI right now and everyone is fired up for August.”

UCI was 19-3-2 in 2010, setting the school mark for victories and tying the Big West Conference record. UCI became the first team in conference history to go undefeated and untied during league play with an 8-0-0 record. The Anteaters advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and ended the year ranked No. 14 nationally.
