Corona del Mar libero earns share of Pacific Coast League's top boys' volleyball honor.

Corona del Mar High senior libero Erik Ctvrtlik received a share of the Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player award after he helped the boys' volleyball team repeat as the undefeated league champion.

Ctvrtlik is joined on the first team by three CdM teammates: junior middle blocker Tommy Brooks, junior outside hitter Joey Martino and senior middle blocker Ryan Clayton. The foursome led the Sea Kings (19-11, 10-0 in league) to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Ctvrtlik finished with 168 digs, 57 kills and 11 service aces. He also played in the 36th annual Dave Mohs Orange County High School All-Star Match for seniors.

Ctvrtlik, who shared the MVP honor with Irvine's Brad Hankus, is bound for Vanderbilt University.

Brooks produced 177 kills and 67 blocks.

Martino recorded 256 kills, 81 digs, 43 blocks and 29 aces.

Clayton had 159 kills and 32 blocks.

CdM freshman setter Matt Ctvrtlik and sophomore outside hitter Ryan Moss were both second-team honorees.

Kawaguchi Co-MVP

Sage Hill School senior setter Kent Kawaguchi earned a share of the Academy League boys' volleyball Most Valuable Player award, making it three straight seasons Kawaguchi has won the award.

Kawaguchi helped the Lightning (10-11, 8-2 in league) to a runner-up finish in league and the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs.

Kawaguchi finished with 392 assists, 202 digs, 130 kills, 63 service aces and 33.5 blocks. He shared the league MVP with St. Margaret's senior Oliver O'Donnell.

Kawaguchi, who is bound for USC, played in the 36th annual Dave Mohs Orange County High School All-Star Match for seniors.

Sage Hill junior outside hitter Cameron Hall made the first team, and senior outside hitter Kyle Jaffe and junior libero Nicky Boulos were second-team performers.

Sage Hill sophomore middle blocker Zachary Drobenko received honorable mention.
