Powell, a center fielder and leadoff man for the Orange Empire Conference champion Pirates, who advanced to the four-team state tournament, led OCC in batting average (.398), hits (76) and runs (49) on his way to first-team state and all-conference honors. He was taken in the 20th round by the Oakland Athletics.

Lopes was taken in the sixth round by the Seattle Mariners (No. 191 overall) out of Edison High.
