Newport Hills was led by its age 11-12 boys, 13-14 girls and 13-14 boys – all of which swam to first-place ribbons in each of the five individual events as well as winning both the medley and the freestyle relays.

Three Killer Whale swimmers were three-time winners in individual events. In the under-6 boys’ division, John Laster won the 25-yard freestyle, 25 breaststroke and 25 backstroke. In the 15-18 girls’ division, Hollace Barden, a Corona del Mar High standout swimmer, showed that she is determined to leave her mark not only on the league, but also on the Newport Hills record boards before she heads off to swim for UC Santa Barbara in the fall. She lit up the pool by setting three new team records in her first-place finishes in the 100 free, 100 fly and 100 individual medley.
