Diving: Lubowe grabs crown again

Harry Lubowe made sure to make his final high school diving competition memorable.

The Sage Hill senior went out on top, winning the CIF Southern Section Division 3 title for the second straight year at Riverside City College Tuesday night.

The four-time Academy League diving champion said he wasn’t really expecting to win the championship, similar to last year.

He said halfway through the meet, he felt as if he wasn’t doing his best. But his coach Curt Wilson (Crown Valley Divers of Laguna Niguel) encouraged him to continue trying to perform at his best.

Lubowe scored 451.60 points ahead of second-place Victor Ginelli of Maranatha (433.05).

“It all worked out in the end,” said Lubowe, 17, who will compete for MIT next year in NCAA Division III. “[The CIF title] came as kind of a surprise. I was really excited. I was sort of relieved. It’s a pretty stressful event.”

Lubowe, who carries a 4.16 grade-point average, said he will continue to compete in diving with his club team this summer.
