OCC wins SoCal Regional Golf Championships
COSTA MESA — Kyle Melchiorre shot four-under-par 140 to help lead the Orange Coast College men’s golf team to win the Southern California Regional Championships Monday at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club.
It was the Pirates first regional title since 1958. OCC will make its fourth California Community College Athletic Assn. State Championship appearance May 13 at Rancho Maria Golf Club in Folsom.
Amid bouts of wind and rain, the Pirates came out on top with a team score of 721 (one-over par) after two rounds (359-362) to advance to the State Final Four.
Marcus Mercado-Kiel shot 142 (71-71) to help OCC advance. Teammate Riley Murphy was three shots behind (70-75—145), while Kyle Pollema (73-73—146) and Michael Chen (73-75—148) also scored for the Pirates.
