Vanguard 6, Concordia 3

COSTA MESA — Lucas Pereira, Yahor Kryvaruchka, Robin Wagner and Garrett Gillon all won singles sets for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference match Tuesday at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

The doubles teams of Pereira and Alexandre Piccin, as well as Nils Iwdal and Wagner, also won for Vanguard.

The Lions (7-13, 5-9 in conference) are ranked No. 12 nationally; Concordia is No. 8.

Orange Empire Conference Championships

FULLERTON — Sophomore Kierstin Colesen won three individual events and anchored two winning relays to share Swimmer of the Meet laurels and lead Orange Coast College to a runaway team title in the meet completed Saturday at Fullerton College.

Colesen won the 50-yard freestyle in a meet-record 23.58 seconds, won the 100 free (52.59) and the 200 free (1 minute, 56.84). She was on the winning 200 free and 200 medley relays.

Lisa MacManus won two individual events and was on three winning relays, while freshman Alyssa Schrader had two individual wins, one second-place finish and was on two winning relays.

Freshman Starlene Lara had two individual wins and was on two winning relays to help OCC amass 985.5 points, well more than runner-up Riverside’s 822.

MacManus won the 50 backstroke (29.14) and the 100 back (1:01.35). MacManus, Mary Jane Cooney, Melanie Larson and Schrader comprised the 400 free relay team that posted a meet record time of 3:34.41.

Schrader won the 100 individual medley (1:01.94) and the 100 butterfly (58.64).

Lara topped the field in the 50 breaststroke (32.28) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.62).

Sophomore Brittany Daniels was second in the 500 free and the 200 free, while sophomore Caila Poythress was second in the 100 back and was on one winning relay.

Larson, a sophomore, was third in the 50 and 100 free events and was on three winning relays, while Clooney, a sophomore, was third in the 500 free and the 200 free and was on two winning relays.

Freshman Carolyn Rohwer was second in the 50 back, sophomore Renee Hone was third in the 100 breaststroke and the 100 IM, and sophomore Elizabeth Dempsey was third in the 200 IM and was on one winning relay.

OCC’s Anthony Iacopetti shared Women’s Coach of the Year honors.

Orange Empire Conference Championships

FULLERTON — Sophomores Daniel Burns, Jonathan Kim, Joshua Kloppenberg and freshman John Chang each won two individual events and were on two winning relays to help Orange Coast College win the team title in the three-day meet completed Saturday at Fullerton College.

Burns won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events in 46.63 seconds and 1 minute, 43.49 seconds, respectively. He was also second in the 50 free (21.31).

Kim won the 100 butterfly (52.80) and the 100 backstroke (51.37) and was third in the 200 back.

Kloppenburg won the 100 and 200 breaststroke in 57.84 and 2:07.65, respectively, while Change topped the field in the 200 individual medley (1:55.66) and the 200 fly (1:57.42).

OCC amassed 960 points to run away from runner-up Riverside (802).

Conrad Trzeciecki, a freshman from Newport Harbor High, won the 50 free (21.20), was second in the 100 free and third in the 200 free. He also contributed to two winning relays.

John Prichard, a sophomore out of Newport Harbor, won the 1,650 free in 16:58.52 and was third in the 500 free.

Sophomore Derek Pronk finished second in the 200 IM, the 100 fly and the 200 back and was on two winning relays.

Sophomore Kenny Bray was second in the 1,650 and the 500 free, was third in the 200 fly and was on one relay winner.

Sophomore Kevin Donnelly was on three winning relays and was third in the 100 free, while freshman Ikaika Sarma, out of Newport Harbor, was on two winning relays.

Ian Richards, a sophomore out of Newport Harbor, was second in the 400 IM and third in the 100 IM.

OCC’s Anthony Iacopetti was named Men’s Coach of the Year in the conference, while OCC’s Brandon Thomas was named Diver of the Year.

Concordia 5, Vanguard 4

COSTA MESA — Anna Valingsten and Brittnie Furuvald recorded the lone singles wins for the tenth-ranked Lions in a Golden State Athletic Conference match against seventh-ranked Concordia on Tuesday.

Vanguard dropped to 10-10, 8-8 in conference.
