BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Newport Harbor def. Fountain Valley

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Senior outside hitter Cody Caldwell finished with 31 kills, his second straight 30-plus kill total in two days, as the Sailors stayed undefeated in Sunset League play after winning 25-19, 23-25, 20-25, 25-23, 17-15 on Friday.

Caldwell also had nine digs for Newport Harbor (14-6, 5-0 in league), ranked No. 8 in the CIF Southern Section Division I poll.

Rusty Sary contributed 11 kills and 12 digs, and Kevin Rakestraw had 15 kills. Ian Sequeira recorded 49 assists and six digs.

The Sailors travel to compete in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions on April 15 and 16.

Corona del Mar def. University

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Nick Curci finished with 27 assists Friday, helping the Sea Kings earn a 25-8, 25-13, 25-17 sweep to improve to 5-0 in Pacific Coast League play.

Brennan Anderson had eight kills for CdM (16-2), which is ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division II poll.

The Sea Kings compete at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions on April 15 and 16.

Sage Hill def. Crean Lutheran

NEWPORT COAST – Junior outside hitter Chris Zadra had 14 kills, 12 digs and four aces in the Lightning’s 25-22, 26-24, 25-20 Academy League win Friday.

Brooks Westervelt helped Sage Hill rally from a four-point deficit in the second set. He served five straight times as the Lightning won, 26-24.

Kent Kawaguchi had 35 assists for the Lightning (7-12, 4-1 in league).

Corona del Mar 9, Mesa Grande Academy 7

CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings won the first game of a nonleague doubleheader Friday by getting 11 hits. They were also aided by three Mesa Grande errors.

Delaney Owen pitched a complete game, striking out six, to improve to 6-7 on the season for CdM. Karley Johnston had four runs batted in and Jordan Meyers and Amanda Penna each drove in two for the Sea Kings.

CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings dropped the second game of the nonleague doubleheader and are 6-13 on the season. Lindsey Susolik went two for two and scored the lone run for Corona del Mar.

IRVINE — Junior midfielder Michael Keasey scored four goals Friday for the Sea Kings, who defeated the Timberwolves for the second time in as many days in Pacific Coast League play.

Hunter Molnar added two goals and Chris Von Der Ahe had one goal for CdM (10-1, 7-0 in league), ranked No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section by laxpower.com.
