High School Roundup: Namba wins two in CdM victory

CORONA DEL MAR — Jared Namba won two events for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League meet Wednesday at CdM.

Namba won the 100-yard butterfly in 51.45 seconds, as well as the 100 backstroke in 51.66. He also led off the winning 200 medley relay team, which also included Tyler Lin, Justin Hanson and Ari Marks and touched in 1:38.23.

Lin win the 100 breaststroke in 59.83, Liam Karas won the 200 individual medley in 1:58.70 and Paul Sigler captured the 500 free in 4:47.33 for CdM (1-1 in league).

The Sea Kings (1-1 in league), who also won the 200 free relay, play host to rival Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay on Tuesday.

Saddleback 92, Estancia 66

COSTA MESA — Austin Bowe captured two events for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League meet Wednesday at Estancia High.

Bowe won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 37.42 seconds, as well as the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.56.

Hayden Swift won the 50 free in 24.49 seconds for Estancia.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Corona del Mar 95, Irvine 75

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Hollace Barden won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 free for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League meet Wednesday at CdM.

Barden won with CIF Southern Section Division 1 automatic times in both the 50 (24.69 seconds) and 100 (52.39). CdM’s 200 free relay team of Brynne Wong, Pippa Saunders, Ally McCormick and Barden also touched in 1:40.50, another CIF automatic time.

Wong captured the 100 fly (59.11) and 100 back (1:01.80) for the Sea Kings. McCormick won the 200 free in 2:01.49, Natalie Wong won the 500 free in 5:23.62 and the 400 free relay team (Saunders, Barden, McCormick, Brynne Wong) touched first in 3:41.43.

CdM (2-0 in league) plays host to rival Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay on Tuesday.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. University

IRVINE — Parker Brown had seven kills and four aces to help the Sea Kings to a 25-13, 25-21, 26-24 Pacific Coast League win Wednesday.

Remy Lamons had six kills, James Christian added four kills and Joe Ctrvtlik finished with 19 assists for CdM (13-4, 3-0 in league), which plays host to Irvine on Friday.

BOYS’ GOLF

Estancia 206, Costa Mesa 223

COSTA MESA — The Eagles’ Bill Crosson was medalist after carding a two-over par 37 on Wednesday at Mesa Linda.

Aaron Wood (40), Jake Stone (42), Ryan Quinlan (43) and Davin Ortiz (44) also scored for Estancia, which was without its top two golfers. Jake Knapp was playing a practice round for a Monday National tour qualifying event, while Courtland Lee had food poisoning.

Estancia (10-2, 5-0 in league) plays Newport Harbor in a nonleague match Monday at Mesa Linda.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 10, Marina 4

NEWPORT BEACH — Riley Robinson scored four goals and Riley Peterson had three goals for the Sailors in their Sunset League opener Wednesday.

Alex Opyd had one goal and two assists, while Matt Porteous and Noah Popick added one goal each. Luke Toohey (two assists), Jack Murrel (one assist) and Brian Team (one assist) also contributed. Zac Zayda and Christian Ruelas combined for 10 saves.

Murrel (four groundballs, four takeaways, two knockdowns) and Nathan Frank (three groundballs, two takeaways, three knockdowns) also stood out for Newport Harbor (6-3, 1-0 in league), which plays at rival Corona del Mar Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 22, University 4

IRVINE — Molly Rovzar scored five goals for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Wednesday at University High.

Paige Miller added three goals for CdM (8-2, 5-0 in league), and Sara Machoskie scored twice. Kendall Mulvaney had two assists and Brooke Van Hensbergen made seven saves in goal.

Corona del Mar will play rival Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay, at 10 a.m. Saturday at CdM.
