Doubleheader

COSTA MESA — Rachel Stalford won her fourth straight pitching decision to help the host Lions split two nonconference games with Simpson University on Wednesday.

Vanguard won the first game, 2-1, in eight innings, to back Stalford, who is now 7-6.

The Lions scored the winning run with the help of the international tiebreaker (a runner beginning the inning on second base). Kari Bergerson executed a sacrifice bunt. After a Taylor Hallahan single failed to produce the run, putting runners on the corners, Breanne Gomez lifted a sacrifice fly to left for the walk-off win.

In the second game, Simpson rallied from a 2-0 deficit to post a 3-2 victory.

Vanguard is 25-16.
