LAGUNA BEACH — Senior outside hitter Cody Caldwell recorded 29 kills and 11 digs in the Sailors’ 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-27, 15-10 nonleague win Thursday.

Rusty Sary contributed 14 kills and Kevin Rakestraw had 13 kills for Newport Harbor (9-5).

Ian Sequeira finished with 55 assists against Laguna Beach, ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division II coaches’ poll.

Davis Brown and Todd Bates each had three kills.

The Sailors travel to Manhattan Beach to play Mira Costa, which is ranked No. 1 in Division I, at 7 p.m. The match for Newport Harbor is the second this week against a top two program in the division.

Windward def. Sage Hill

NEWPORT COAST — Chris Zadra 14 kills and seven digs for the Lightning in the nonleague match that Windward won, 25-16, 25-17, 25-21, Thursday.

Kent Kawaguchi had 13 kills and two aces, while Nicky Boulos had 29 assists for Sage Hill (3-9).

The Lightning play against Brethren Christian at Liberty Christian in an Academy League opener Monday at 7 p.m.

BOYS’ GOLF

Newport Harbor 200, Marina 204

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Carter Norris earned medalist honors, shooting a one-under-par 35 in the Sailors’ Sunset League opener in cold and windy conditions at Big Canyon Country Club Thursday.

Norris has finished first in four of his last five matches.

Brad Tapfer finished with a 38 for Newport Harbor (5-5, 1-0 in league), followed by Mason Moody (39), Marcus Kiel (41) and Zach Eddy (47).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Estancia 11, Godinez 7

SANTA ANA — Cory Frino and Matt Thomas swept in No. 1 doubles play in the Eagles’ Orange Coast League match Thursday at Santa Ana Valley High.

Joseph Kidane and Erik Cerros swept at No. 2 doubles for Estancia (4-7, 1-1 in league).

The Eagles play Saddleback Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Corona del Mar 14, Irvine 4

CORONA DEL MAR — No. 1 singles player Shane Korber swept to improve to 22-0 for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Thursday.

Alex Murray and Carter Wheatley won twice at No. 1 doubles, while subs Daniel Anastos, Caleb Kim, Johnny Dang and Zach Haber all came up with victories at the end of the match to seal the victory for CdM (8-1, 2-0 in league).

The Sea Kings will play host to Woodbridge Tuesday and then University Thursday. Both big league matches begin at 3:15 p.m.

GIRLS’ TRACK & FIELD

Corona del Mar 72, Northwood 55

CORONA DEL MAR — Ashlee Powers and Karleh Wilson were double winners for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League meet Thursday.

Powers won the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 15.3 seconds and the 3,200 in 11:31.2. Wilson won the shot put with a mark of 37 feet, ½ inch and the discus (114-2).

Cassidy Lundy (13.2 in the 100), Molly Keasey (27.3 in the 200), Devon Hoppe (59.9 in the 400) and McKenzie Brown (30-10 in the triple jump) also won for CdM.

Corona del Mar 85, Northwood 42

CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings’ Troy Bolus won the long jump (19-2 ¾) and the triple jump (38-7 ½) in the Pacific Coast League meet Thursday.

John Swigert (23.4 in the 200), Jesse Mejia (53.8 in the 400), Kyle Iverson (2:04.5 in the 800), Blake Myers (4:37.7 in the 1,600), Austin Barvin (10:09.1 in the 3,200), Ian Klug (5-8 in the high jump) and Nic Hummel (43-4.5 in the shot put) were also winners for CdM.
