COSTA MESA — The host Pirates erased a 3-2 deficit with one run in the sixth inning, then scored single runs in the seventh and eighth in the Orange Empire Conference game Saturday.
OCC (22-2-1, 9-1 in conference), ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 2 in one national poll, won its sixth straight. Eight of its nine starters got at least one hit.
Ben Agredano was two for four with a solo home run, while Chris Carlson and Justin Broussard had one hit and one RBI apiece for the winners.
Sophomore Josh Evans, one of three Pirates who combined for four shutout innings of one-hit relief, earned the victory.
Saddleback is 8-12, 3-7.
OCC visits Saddleback on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
COSTA MESA — The host Lions defeated Point Loma Nazarene, 7-5 and 3-1, to sweep in Golden State Athletic Conference action Saturday.
Brandon Young drove in two runs in each game to pace Vanguard (12-11, 3-9), which has now won three straight.
J.R. Bromberg allowed four hits and one earned run to get the Game 2 victory, after closing out the first game to earn the save and preserve Gabe Garcia's win.
Eric Sanchez was two for three with an RBI for Vanguard in the opener.
Point Loma is 13-17, 6-11.
COSTA MESA — The host Lions rallied twice to earn the sweep, topping Ottawa of Kansas, 3-1 and 2-1, in nonconference action Saturday.
Taylor Hallahan drove in two runs during a three-run fifth to erase a 1-0 deficit in the opener, backing Stacie Salazar, who allowed three hits and one run in a complete game.
