NEWPORT BEACH — USC-bound senior Mike Moorhead finished at three-under-par 32 and earned medalist honors for the Sea Kings, who tied a school record for lowest score, in a Pacific Coast League match at Newport Beach Country Club on Thursday.

Moorhead was one of three players recording an eagle for CdM (11-0, 2-0 in league).

Moorhead’s eagle came on the third hole, a par five, as did Chase Wheatley’s eagle. Wheatley shot a 35.

Davenport, who had a 34, eagled the seventh hole, a par four.

Brian Mull had a 38, followed by 39s by Karick Brown and Hale Furey.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sophomore Brad Tapfer shot three-under-par 33 to earn medalist honors for the visiting Sailors in the Sunset League match Thursday at SeaCliff Country Club.

It’s the lowest round of the season for the Sailors (5-3, 1-0 in league) and the best score any Sailors golfer has posted at the challenging layout during Coach Scott Tarnow’s 12 seasons at Newport Harbor.

Tapfer had three birdies and six pars.

Mason Woody (37) and Carter Norris (38) also stood out for the Tars.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Senior Jake Knapp, bound for UCLA, shot six-under-par 30 to earn medalist honors for the Eagles in the nonleague match at Mesa Verde Country Club.

Newport Harbor 13, Edison 5

NEWPORT BEACH — Freshman Reese Stalder, playing No. 1 singles, didn’t drop a game during the Sailors’ Sunset League opener on Thursday.

Troy Arnold lost only one game in No. 3 singles for Newport Harbor (3-3, 1-0 in league).

Matthew Searcy and Logan Friend won two of three in No. 1 doubles.

CORONA DEL MAR — Alec Adamson swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4, 6-0, for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Thursday.

Adamson beat Irvine standout Kenny Gea, 6-4, and improved to 22-3 this season. Carson Williams also swept in singles, 6-1, 6-4, 6-0, and improved to 28-2 for CdM (9-1, 2-0 in league).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Beckman

IRVINE — The Sea Kings won, 25-16, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16, in their Pacific Coast League opener Thursday at Beckman High.

Parker Brown had 19 kills and 12 digs for CdM (11-4, 1-0 in league). Jack Reed had 12 kills and five blocks, and James Christian had 10 kills.

Joe Ctvrtlik had 52 assists, seven digs and two blocks for CdM, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 2.

CdM plays at Northwood on Tuesday.

COSTA MESA — Riley Stack had 11 kills for the Eagles in their 25-15, 25-22, 25-19 Orange Coast League victory Thursday at Estancia.

Dylan Gaitan added nine kills and six service aces for Estancia (3-6, 1-1 in league).

Corona del Mar 101, Northwood 26

CORONA DEL MAR — Thomas Testini, Blake Myers, Nick McGuinness and Alex Imani were all double-event winners in the Pacific Coast League meet Thursday at CdM.

Testini won the 100 meters in 11.1 seconds, as well as the 200 in 22.7. Myers captured the 1,600 in 4:32.2, as well as the 3,200 in 9:58.9.

McGuinness won the 300 hurdles in 41.8, as well as the high jump by clearing six feet. Imani won both the shot put (38 feet, 6 1/2 inches) and the discus (147-3) for the Sea Kings.

Kyle Iverson won the 400 (50.2), Ryan Rodriguez won the 800 (1:57.4) and Troy Bolus won the 110 hurdles (15.3) for CdM, which also won both relays.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Ethan Cochran won the shot put (57 feet, 11 inches) as one of the highlights for the Sailors in the Sunset League meet Thursday.

Steve Michaelsen won the discus (172-6), Landon Gyulay won the triple jump (39-5 3/4), Fritz Howser won the pole vault (14-0) and Titus Hasson won the 100 meters (11.20) for Newport Harbor (0-1 in Sunset League), which competes in the Beach City Invitational at Huntington Beach High Saturday.

Corona del Mar 73, Northwood 54

CORONA DEL MAR — Ashley Powers won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s Pacific Coast League meet at CdM.

Powers finished the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 23.6 seconds, and also won the 3,200 in 11:46.3. Katie Gronke won the 200 in 26.8 seconds, and Kristen Rivera won the 800 in 2:20.3.

Emily Glenn won the 300 hurdles (51.5) and Katie Curci won the long jump (14 feet, five inches) for CdM. Karleh Wilson finished first in the shot put (39-8 1/2) and Rebekah Lewis won the discus (103-4) for CdM, which also won both relays.

Edison 113, Newport Harbor 22

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Freshman Natalie Ward won the 300-meter hurdles in 48.27 seconds and was third in the 100 hurdles (17.02) to pace the visiting Sailors in the Sunset League dual-meet opener Thursday.

Paige Tennison was second in the 3,200 in 5:09.61 and the 800 in 2:28.42, while Peri Howser was second in the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches), and Alyssa Randall was third in the 400 (1 minute, 4.37 seconds) for the Tars.
