Local quintet in all-star soccer games

Newport Harbor High girls’ soccer players Natalie Swift, Megan Khademi and Beth Barnard, along with Costa Mesa’s Sami Feinstein and Newport Beach resident Michelle Lancaster of St. Margaret’s, will be playing in all-star soccer games today at La Mirada High.

The games are part of the Southern California High School Coaches Assn. Senior All-Star festivities.

Lancaster, a goalie who helped lead the Tartans to the CIF Southern Section Division VI title, will be representing Division VI and VII against Division V at 1 p.m.

That game will be followed by Division III against Division IV at 3 p.m. The Cal State Dominguez Hills-bound Feinstein, a first-team All-Orange Coast League selection who led the Mustangs with 13 goals, will represent for the Division III All-Stars.

Khademi, who signed with the University of Nevada, will join her fellow midfielder Swift and Barnard, a defender, on the Division I All-Stars. They’ll play Division II at 5 p.m.

Corona del Mar 9, Northwood 0

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior right-hander Eric Morris struck out six, allowed seven hits and threw a complete-game shutout in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League opener Friday.

Brian Ford was one for three with two runs batted in and a double for CdM (6-2, 1-0 in league).

Clark Cashion went two for three with one RBI.

CdM plays at Irvine Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

Costa Mesa 18, Godinez 10

SANTA ANA — Senior P.J. Maloney pitched five innings, earning his third win of the year and he also went three for five with three runs scored in the Mustangs’ Orange Coast League opener Friday.

Junior Logan Benter was two for four with three runs batted in and junior Trace Curet went two for three with three RBIs for Costa Mesa (5-2, 1-0 in league).

Orange County Championships

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Corona del Mar opened with two victories in its Division I pool Friday at Edison.

Parker Brown had 10 kills and Spencer Haly had nine kills in the Sea Kings’ 28-26, 25-19 win over Esperanza. Brennan Andersen added seven kills, Nick Curci had 16 assists and four aces, and Joe Ctvrtlik had 12 assists and five digs.

Haly had eight kills and Evan Dean had seven kills in CdM’s 28-26, 25-20 win over Laguna Beach. Jack Reed had five kills and five blocks, while Ctvrtlik had 13 assists and Curci had 12 assists.

CdM (7-1) plays against JSerra today to conclude pool play today at 10 a.m. Quarterfinal and semifinal matches are also scheduled today.

Orange County Championships

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Newport Harbor opened with two wins in its Division I pool Friday at Fountain Valley High.

The Sailors started with a 20-25, 25-19, 16-14 win over Orange Lutheran.

Cody Caldwell had 14 kills, eight digs and three blocks in Newport’s 25-19, 25-22 win over San Clemente. Rusty Sary had five kills and two aces, and Kevin Rakestraw had eight kills and two blocks for the Sailors (5-4).

Newport plays against Mission Viejo today at 10 a.m. to end pool play.

COSTA MESA — Kyle Treiger had six kills for the Eagles in the nonleague match Marina won, 25-21, 25-15, 25-20, Friday.

Anthony Pham had 10 digs for Estancia (0-6).

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Estancia 118, Bolsa Grande 51

COSTA MESA — Senior Preston Schow won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.97 seconds and 50 free in 24.22, helping the Eagles win their first meet of the season Friday.

Schow teamed up with Asher Twardowski, Conner Graham, Matt Thome to place first in the medley relay (1:54.09).

Estancia (1-3) placed first in every event.

Twardowski won the 200 individual medley (2:21.51) and 500 free (5:40.93).

Jacob Sperling won the 200 free (2:12.96).

Graham won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.10).
