High School Roundup: CdM swimmers shine

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Corona del Mar 116, Woodbridge 54

CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings’ 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of Stephania Haralabidis, Stephanie Samudro, Brynne Wong and Ioanna Haralabidis swam a CIF Division 1 automatic time in the Pacific Coast League opener Wednesday at CdM.

They touched in 1 minute, 51.24 seconds. Samudro, a junior transfer from San Marino, also won the 200 individual medley in 2:10.44, and Ioanna Haralabidis won the 100 free in 53.74.

Wong captured the butterfly in 58.49 and the 50 free in 25.05.

Ally McCormick won the 200 free (1:58.50) and freshman Maddie Sanders won the 500 free in 5:33.21.

CdM, which won all three relays, faces University in a big league meet Wednesday at home.

BASEBALL

Estancia 8, Cerritos 5

CERRITOS — Senior Ben Beck improved to 2-0 after striking out five in four innings in the Eagles’ nonleague game on Wednesday.

Beck also went two for four with two runs and three stolen bases.

Tyler Rios went two for five with two runs batted in and a stolen base.

Estancia (4-2) opens Orange Coast League play at home against rival Costa Mesa on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 9, Servite 7

NEWPORT BEACH — Riley Peterson had three goals for the host Sailors in the nonlueage match Wednesday.

Brian Team scored twice for Newport Harbor (2-4) and Brandon Rausch, Ritter Hagadorn, Garrett Farthing and Chris Buchanan added single goals.

Christian Ruelas made eight saves for Newport, which plays host to St. Margaret’s on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Corona del Mar 13, Beckman 6

CORONA DEL MAR — Sophomore goalie Hoyt Crance made 11 saves for the host Sea Kings in a nonleague game on Wednesday.

Casey Mix recorded four goals and two assists for CdM (3-0), which outscored Beckman, 5-1, in the fourth quarter.

Jack Ortlieb and Brett Nelson had three goals apiece.

The Sea Kings play at Santa Margarita on Saturday at noon.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Woodbridge 9, Newport Harbor 9

(Woodbridge wins on games, 87-67)

NEWPORT BEACH — Sophomore Reese Stalder swept at No. 1 singles for the Sailors in Wednesday’s nonleague match at Newport Harbor High.

Christian Lee won twice in singles, as did the pairing of Sean Perrier and Garrett Byers in doubles.

Newport Harbor (6-4) plays host to Mira Costa on Thursday.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Senior Robert Marrone swept at No. 1 singles for Estancia in the nonleague match Wednesday at Edison High.

Estancia (8-2) plays host to Laguna Beach on Thursday.
