Rose Bowl Tournament

PASADENA — Newport Harbor finished second after reaching the final with tight wins over Back Bay rival Corona del Mar and La Canada Saturday.

The Sailors lost to Beckman, 5-3, in the title match.

Newport Harbor beat CdM, 6-5, and La Canada, 5-4.

Seniors Lexi McCardle, Sierra Michaelsen, Stephanie Storch and Amanda Olevsky scored three goals each during the action Saturday. Chelsie Delameter added one goal and two assists for the day.

Delameter’s goal came in the closing seconds that gave Newport the 5-4 win over La Canada.

The Sailors trailed CdM, 5-4, but Michaelsen scored with three minutes left and again with one minute remaining for the win.

Newport Harbor will play host to Tesoro Tuesday at 6 p.m.

BASEBALL

Corona del Mar 6, Patriot 0

RIVERSIDE — Senior Josh Harrison pitched a complete-game five-hit shutout with five strikeouts and one walk in the pool-play game of the Newport Elks Tournament’s Foothill Division Saturday.

Harrison also helped his cause by going two for three with a double and a run batted in.

Senior Clark Cashion delivered a single with the bases loaded to break a scoreless tie in the sixth inning. Cashion finished two for four with a double and two RBIs.

Senior Brian Ford was two for four with two doubles and an RBI and senior Will Morrow went two for four with a double and an RBI for CdM (2-0), which had seven doubles as a team.

The Sea Kings continue pool play in the tournament Tuesday at 3 p.m., when they play host to Katella.

Warren 15, Costa Mesa 5

COSTA MESA — Junior Logan Benter went one for two with a walk, a double and two runs scored for the Mustangs in a pool-play game of the Newport Elks Tournament’s Orange County Division Saturday.

Costa Mesa (1-1) had six hits.

The Mustangs continue pool play in the tournament against Valley Christian in Cerritos Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Earl Engman Relays

ORNAGE — Juniors Ashley Tupailesa and Punua Fesili and senior Catalina Lay won the girls’ shot put relay with a combined 92 feet, 7 inches and broke the meet’s Division III record Saturday at El Modena High.

The trio finished second in the girls’ discus relay (247-6) behind Irvine (250-3).
