Rakestraw, who is bound for Stanford to play volleyball, had season-highs for points and rebounds against Patriot (16-12), which used a zone defense to try to stop the Sailors (14-13).

Brian Robbs added 10 points and eight rebounds for Newport Harbor, which will play host to top-seeded Westlake of Westlake Village Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Westlake (24-4) beat La Habra, 88-44, in the first round Friday.

“They were fired up,” Newport Harbor Coach Bob Torribio said of his players’ reaction after the win. “We rode the big fella. [Patriot] played a zone. When you have a seven-footer [like Rakestraw], that can break down the zone. They didn’t do a good job of blocking him out. Sometimes the numbers don’t tell the story of a game, but his numbers did end up doing that. Our guards were shooting fairly well, but he was over there giving us second chances off missed shots. He played his tail off tonight.”
