In the No. 1 singles match-up Vanguard's Stefan Kilchhofer made quick work of Concordia's Bruno Kliskinic (6-3, 6-0) in the Golden State Athletic Conference match Saturday.

The Lions' Roger Muri defeated Christ Wickenhauser in the #2 slot (6-2, 6-2) and Lukas Larsson claimed a clutch three-set win in the No. 3 position over the Eagles' Marc Reddmann.

The fourth individual match saw VU's Robin Wagner take down Micah Groom 6-3, 6-1 while Yahor Kryvaruchka tallied the final singles' point when he bested Concordia's Patrick Szeremeta at the #5 spot.

The Pride captured all three doubles points on the afternoon. Kilchhofer and Larsson had no problem with Concordia's No. 1 duo of Wickenhauser and Groom, earning the 8-1 victory to begin pairs' play. At No. 2 doubles Vanguard's Muri and Wagner battled past Szeremeta and Reddman, 8-4, while Rosiak and Kryvaruchka stole the final point of the day, 8-5.

With the win the Lions improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Concordia drops to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in GSAC matches.

The Pride will play host to Biola on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in their GSAC home opener.



Concordia 7, Vanguard 2

COSTA MESA — The 10th-ranked Lions drop to 0-3 with the defeat, while fifth-ranked Concordia moved to 1-2 overall in the Golden State Athletic Conference opener Saturday.

The Pride's No. 1 individual player Juliet Labarthe proved her worth, pulling off a three-set win over Concordia's Elizaveta Ignatova (2-6, 6-3, 6-2). In the No. 2 slot Nina Pudar picked up VU's second point with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over the Eagles' Ulrike Hahn.

Vanguard's Gabriele Alford got off to a good start at No. 4 but was eventually beaten in three sets by CUI's Summer Beaird.

The Eagles swept all three doubles points to begin the day.



Husky Classic

SEATTLE, Wash. — UC Irvine sophomore Itos Aikhionbare continued her impressive indoor season Saturday.

Aikhionbare finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 47 feet, 1½ inches on the final day of action at Dempsey Indoor for her third top-five finish in as many meets this season.

UCI's Maggie McDuffee placed fifth in the 3,000 meters in 10 minutes, 16.62 seconds, and Carlotta Pham also was in the top 10, finishing ninth in 10:19.92.

Kaycee Holcomb won her section of the mile run and placed ninth overall in 5:01.99 and Samia Sailinuu was 16th in 5:04.79.

Sakia Sailinuu (2:16.03) and Chelsea Schneider (2:18.94) each placed sixth in their respective sections of the 800 meters.

Kaulyn Lee-McNeill had the Anteaters' top time in the 400 meters at 59.64, while Melanie Speech and Charity Lyons had marks of 16-4½ and 16-3¾, respectively, in the long jump.

UCI returns to Seattle in two weeks for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championship Feb. 22-23.
